This day, 22 years ago, a little baby girl was born (by TC)
She is the first grandchild in the family.
Everyone dotes on her like treasure..maybe we never had a kid in the house.
Tai ma, ah ma, ah yi-s, gu-gu and many more.
She was taken care by my mum, who is also her ah ma.
SL and I went thru the names from A to Z, and settled for YVONNE.
Followed by the direct translation Yiwen (not the naughty mozzie).
This little baby ger did not look a bit cute at all;
I got to cuddle her in my arms when she refused to sleep.
Swing her until she slept. I was only Sec 4 then.
As days went by, she has grown to be so adorable,
Our ah ma, who is her tai ma loves her dearly.
Two of them will sit and watch by the window.
She is such a sweet tongue girl, greet whoever she meets.
Even neighbors like her too!
On her 1st day to school, I brought her there.
We had a tug a war game there. The teacher on one side, and me the other side.
Vonvon was in the middle screaming her lungs out. It hurts so much.
Finally I lost, to the teacher. She was in the room, still crying.
While I hung outside the room, crying too!
All the parents left after the children went in, except me.
I waited at the nearby void deck worrying for her,
Soon, days after days, she was a happy child at the school.
1988, tai-ma left us. Kenneth and Nerd were born the same year.
Vonvon was 4 years old while I finished my A levels too.
We were very closed cos I stayed with her family most of the time.
Be it Pandan garden or Yishun, I was there with them.
This girl has always been so sweet. Never make us angry at all.
I started working and dating, did not spend much time with her then.
I cannot remember her schooling days at Aitong nor Anderson.
Still, she was a trouble-free girl who cares a lot for my mum, her ah ma.
Soon she went into JC and university and completed her final year.
Times flies, she is already a big girl, ready to be in love,
This girl, just like our own kid, is already an adult unknowingly.
Maybe she is the first grandchild, maybe we love her a lot,
We still worry and care for her.
Maybe she is close to all of us, maybe she knew how to cheer us,
Maybe that is just her, maybe that is our dearie Yvonne.
